Announcing The Sound of Music

The Stephen Foster Drama Association (SFDA) has announced that their 2025 Summer Broadway Musical will be Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music.” The show, set to be performed in July and August, will take place at the J. Dan Talbott Amphitheatre in Bardstown, and tickets are available now. A total of seven performances will take place in July and two will take place in August.

The Sound of Music, the final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein, was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of a new regime take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

Featuring beloved songs like “Do-Re-Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” this classic musical celebrates the power of music and the triumph of the human spirit.

“We are honored to bring the timeless joy of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s ‘The Sound of Music’ to life on our stage,” said SFDA Executive Artistic Director Johnny Warren. “This classic story is filled with iconic songs and heartfelt moments. We are excited to invite audiences of all ages to join us for an unforgettable theatrical experience.”
